About the Application

Applications will be available online beginning October 1, 2022. See application program pages for application deadlines. Eligible students:
  • are currently enrolled or accepted at a TnCIS member institution
  • have a minimum 2.0 GPA indicated on an official transcript at the time of application and are in “good standing” – this includes academic and disciplinary matters
  • have completed a minimum of 12 college level credit hours (by the start of the program)
  • will be 18 years old by the start of the program
A complete application consists of:
  1. completed online application
  2. nonrefundable $100 application fee (paid at your home institution)
  3. official transcript sent to TnCIS by the registrar at your institution
  4. online recommendation form completed by a professor
Official Transcript: There are 2 ways to request an official transcript from your institution.

  1. E-transcript: This is the easiest and fastest way to send an official transcript to TnCIS. Most TBR institutions use the National Student Clearinghouse (NSC) to send official e-transcripts. Check with your institution on how to submit a transcript through this service. If your home institution uses a different e-transcript vendor, you must send an official transcript by requesting a paper copy from your registrar/records office.

  2. Official Paper Transcript: Contact your home institution’s registrar/records office to request an official transcript sent in a sealed envelope. IMPORTANT: Transcripts marked as Issued To Student will not be accepted. Only official transcripts issued directly to TnCIS will be accepted.  Have official transcripts mailed to this address:
Tennessee Consortium for International Studies (TnCIS)
Pellissippi State Community College
P.O. Box 22990
Knoxville, TN 37933-0990

Please Note: Eligible students must have a minimum 2.0 GPA indicated on the official transcript at the time of application and be in "good standing". This includes academic and disciplinary matters. The transcript should also include any/all in progress courses to verify you are currently enrolled at the institution. If this is your first semester, you can submit a transcript to show your enrollment status, but you will not be accepted into a TnCIS program until your transcript shows a GPA for completed coursework.

Faculty Recommendation: This is an online recommendation you will request from a faculty member who has had you in a class. Only the online recommendation form is accepted for review. You will need to know the person's college email address to set up the recommendation request through your online application.

Acceptance Notification Process:  Students are notified of acceptance by email shortly after the application deadline. Email is the primary channel of communication for the TnCIS office and you will be responsible for information sent to the email address you provide to create your TnCIS user account. Sent emails can also be accessed in the 'message' center of your student portal.

Student Portal:  When you created your user account, a TnCIS Student Portal was also created. After logging in, students can track progress in completing requirements for studying abroad in their portal. Click on the house icon and choose 'Applicant' to open your applications and view required items. Incomplete items will be found at the top of the application page and must be completed by clicking 'done'. Once all items have moved to 'Completed Requirements' students will be prompted to click 'Submit Application' in order to be reviewed by the application deadline.

Program Forms: Important forms you need to review prior to submitting your application are below. These forms will be completed by the applicant after being accepted into a program. Follow instructions found in your online application for how to submit each form by the designated deadlines. DO NOT complete the forms before being accepted to a program.
