Program Location

This program will take place in London, England,--a global city and one of the world’s largest most important financial centers.  It is also a place rich in history.  London has hosted the 1208, 1948, and 2012 Summer Olympics.  Its international character is evident in every neighborhood, where people of different cultural, ethnic, and socio-economic background live and work together. 
 
The student will acquire a high-quality academic training using a combination of clinical and didactic experiences.  The student will be able to observe studies that are not performed in the United States and hear lectures by current clinical staff in the host country.  The experiences will be obtained at various hospitals throughout London.  There will be some free time, as well as a trip to Stonehenge and Bath.
 
Program Requirements
  • Must meet minimum TnCIS requirements 
  • Must be currently enrolled at Chattanooga State Community College
  • Must be currently accepted in the Nuclear Medicine Technology Program, or granted permission by the program director
  • Must be in “good standing” – this includes academic and disciplinary matters
  • Must be able to complete course assignments in advance of the travel dates
  • Must be able to walk 2 miles and carry luggage up and down stairs
  • Must apply to the program by completing the online TnCIS application, register for the NUCM 2145 course at Chattanooga State for the spring 2018 semester, and pay the $500 non-refundable deposit by Wednesday, November 29, 2018.

NUCM 2145: Global Experiences in Nuclear Medicine
 

Course Details 
 

Program Description

Students will journey to London to explore the ways in which nuclear medicine and molecular imaging is performed.  Radiopharmaceuticals, procedures, and technology not used or performed in the United States will be the focus of this course. Students will have the opportunity to visit hospitals and clinics in  London and not only experience how nuclear medicine and molecular imaging is performed, but also gain an understanding on how health care in the host country works compared to the United States.  Guest lecturers in the host country will present on various topics, including nuclear medicine procedures, patient care, and healthcare policies.
 
There will be pre-program l planning and study classes.  This will be done in collaboration with other colleges, to learn about the location and nuclear medicine and molecular imaging in the host country, along with cultural information.  Several post- program classes will occur to finalize the project and to plan for a presentation to the Chattanooga State Allied Health Community. 

Excursions May Include
Visits to various hospitals in London will be included on several of the days of the program.  Additionally, students may travel to Stonehenge and Bath.

Class Information
Thirteen weeks of the course will be focused on collaboration with the other colleges and learning about the dynamics of the healthcare system and other variances between Europe and the United States cultures.  One week will be the program in London and one week will be dedicated to presentations.


Accommodations

Student accommodations will be at the St. Giles Hotel in Central London.  This facility is within walking distance to fast food, coffee shops, pharmacy, grocery store, and has an in house breakfast buffet which is included in the program fee.  A second meal will be provide while in London.

$2000
A $500 non-refundable deposit is due by Wednesday, November 29, 2018. The deadline for full program fee payment and required TnCIS paperwork is January 18, 2018.
