 The French Sports & Leadership Exchange is a Partnership Program.  
Only students from Pellissippi State Community College are eligible to participate.

Enrollment Maximum: 12 students (students must apply to the program, interview, and be accepted.)
Partnership Programs are not eligible for the $100 early discount.

Program Location

The French Sports and Leadership Exchange is a leadership development program with an emphasis on sports that travels to France in May for approximately 13 days. For the majority of the program we are in the city of Cherbourg which is located on the coast of Normandy. We spend two nights in Paris at the end of the trip. The exchange is with a local college in Cherbourg (IUT). Each PSCC student stays in the home of a French student while in Normandy. 

Program Requirements:

Must meet minimum TnCIS requirements:
  • Must be currently enrolled or accepted at Pellissippi State Community College
  • Must have a minimum 2.0 GPA and are in “good standing” – this includes academic and disciplinary matters
  • Must have completed a minimum of 12 college level credit hours (by the start of the program)
  • Must be at least 18 years of age
Students must meet the following program requirements:
  • Must have served or commit to serve in a leadership capacity on campus (NSO Leaders, Student Activities Board, Student Ambassador, COSA member, Supplemental Instructor, Student Success Mentor, club member) , be recommended  by a faculty or staff member, or be a member of the Pellissippi State chapter of the National Society of Leadership and Success.
  • Must be able to complete course assignments in advance of the travel dates.
  • Must assist with the planning and implementation of the French exchange program in Tennessee prior to the May travel dates.
  • Must be able to hike 5 miles, swim, and carry luggage up and down stairs.
  • Must write a one-page essay describing  what you hope to gain from the leadership course and participation in the sports and leadership exchange program that will develop you into a stronger student leader at PSCC and/or our community
  • Must apply to the program by Saturday, February 11, 2018 by completing the online TnCIS application. Must submit one-page essay via email to tcloveday@pstcc.edu by February 11, 2018.
  • Must complete an interview by February 28, 2018.

Program Description

When in Normandy, our French hosts and the IUT provide us with: all meals, lodging, cost associated with all of the sports (equipment rental, instruction, wet suits, etc.), travel to various locations throughout Normandy, entry fees into museums, and more. 
 
Excursions May Include
Each day students meet at the IUT and then travel to participate in sports/recreational activities. In the past these activities have included: hiking, SCUBA diving, rappelling, sailing, speed sailing, sand sailing, surfing, wind surfing, various traditional sports with the other college students, and other activities. The program may also include visits to le Mont Saint Michel (an abbey that is surrounded by the ocean at high tide) and the Allied Landing beaches, American Cemetery, and a museum in Caen. In Paris, students may also visit the Eiffel Tower.

Class Information
The course will take place during the spring semester third 5 week session—April & May, 2018. Accepted students will be instructed on how to register for the course.


Accommodations

Students live with French host families in Normandy with all meals included. In Paris, students stay in a tourist quality hotel with a roommate and only breakfast provided.

Program Fee

  • $500

Fee includes round trip economy airfare for a single seat, trains, subways, and some excursions in Paris.  Costs not covered are food while in Paris, passport, and incidentals.
