Program Location

Turkey, an ancient land bridge between Europe and Asia, has been a cultural crossroads for thousands of years.  Numerous civilizations have had an impact on Turkey, leaving behind a rich culture, architectural wonders, and an artistic heritage that span millennia. The program will be based in 4 beautiful cities (Istanbul, Izmir, Fethiye, and Ankara). Istanbul is the largest city in Turkey, and is considered the cultural, economic, and financial Centre of Turkey. It is also designated as an “Alpha” city of the world and the 5th largest. The students will be hosted by Bogazici (Bosporus) University in Istanbul (one of the top universities in the World).
Izmir is the third largest city in Turkey and the second biggest port after Istanbul. Once the ancient city of Izmir (Smyrna), it is now a modern, developed, and busy commercial center, set around a huge bay and surrounded by mountains. The students will be hosted by Yasar Univeristy in Izmir.
Ankara is the capital of Turkey and the 2nd largest city. Ankara is a very old city with various Hittite, Phrygian, Hellenistic, Roman, Byzantine, and Ottoman archaeological sites. The students will be hosted by the Middle East Technical University (one of the top universities in the World).
Fethiye is a city on the Mediterranean coast of southwestern Turkey. It is located on the Turkish Riviera. Students have a planned stay in a 5-star resort in Fethiye and will be have some excursions.

Course Information

All TnCIS programs are academic in nature and course work that takes advantage of the program location will be the central focus. Programs offered by TnCIS through any member institution are in keeping with SACSCOC policies for each respective institution where compliance is monitored at the institutional level.  TnCIS program courses are for credit only.

In Turkey, students will enroll in ONE course. For more information about each of these courses, including pre-requisites and syllabi, use the button provided below.

Program Description

Turkey provides a unique cultural context that combines elements of European, Middle Eastern, and Central Asian cultures. Students will have the opportunity to study Music and Computer Science in this modern and pivotal nation.  Students studying in Turkey may make visits to cultural and historic sites in the cities of Istanbul, Izmir, Fethiye, and Ankara. Students will be hosted by Yasar University (7 days), Middle East Technical University (3 days), and Bogazici University (6 days), and they will stay in Fethiye (5 days).

Please note: Prospective students should be aware that study abroad programs require a great deal of walking. You should be prepared to walk at least 2 to 3 miles each day. You may also walk over uneven, possibly slippery or rocky terrain, even in cities. 

Excursions May IncludeIn Istanbul students may see the Hagia Sophia, Blue Mosque, Topkapi Palace, Taksim Square and have a Bosporus boat tour.In Izmir, students may have an opportunity to see the House of Virgin Mary and other sites of importance to Greek mythology (e.g. Ephesus).  The Cesme area and beaches may also be visited. In Fethiye, students will stay in a resort hotel and may visit historical sites (e.g. Lycian sites, Oludeniz Lagoon).Other excursions to relevant locations to the coursework will also be planned.  

Class Information
Courses will be taught at 3-4 hours a day during the week.  Some classes may take place onsite during excursions.


All housing will be in a tourist class hotel. Two meals a day will be included in the cost of the program: breakfast and either lunch or dinner.
